Concert Hall of National Musical School

Where music meets the city, architecture with character emerges: the new concert hall at the State Music School in Jastrzębie-Zdrój sets new standards not only in terms of acoustics but also in terms of urban planning, demonstrating how an educational building can become a vibrant public space.

A new concert hall that is more than just a building

The urban development concept was created on the basis of extensive analyses. A central component of the design is a freely accessible square between the new concert hall and the existing buildings of the State Music School. This square forms the public centre of the entire complex and promotes pedestrian traffic.
The lower level of the square opens onto Kościuszki Street and forms a representative entrance area for the concert hall. It is connected to a newly designed green area, which offers a pleasant place to linger and also serves as a passageway from the car park. The upper level of the square functions as a second entrance and as a quiet outdoor area for café operations. The technical access points have been located at the rear of the building to enable smooth delivery.

Excellent architecture for music

Exposed concrete dominates the interior design. A light white tone was deliberately chosen for the corridors, which was achieved using semi-transparent KEIM Concretal glaze. The result is a clear, light concrete that retains its natural character.
The concert hall of the State Music School in Jastrzębie-Zdrój was selected as one of the five finalists for the POLITYKA magazine architecture award in 2021. The design was created by the SLAS Architekci firm in Katowice and was awarded first prize in the SARP competition in 2016.
The new concert hall is a successful example of contemporary architecture that convincingly combines urban space, function and materiality.
